Technical Guidance & Research
There are a number of initiatives that have been implemented in South Africa which include planned standards for municipal valuations for property rating, guidelines and policies and these will need ongoing practical guidance offered to the profession and administrators of the municipal property rates act (MPRA). The Chapter will promote the international guidance on municipal valuations including mass valuations to apply to quality assurance measures to guide the improvement of the profession. The Chapter plans to coordinate and collaborate on areas of research interest on property valuations and rating. The Chapter will also plan to offer guidance to research students and learners to support and feed into the industry and valuer profession. The Chapter plans to offer guidance and mentoring opportunities to research students and learners to support and feed into the industry and valuer profession.
Standards and Ethics
Standards in their implementation promotes standardisation and consistency with the main objective to improve and maintain quality of municipal valuation rolls and equitable rating of property. Further by expanding professional oversight and measurement of the performance of valuation rolls and rating aims to improve the quality of rolls. The Chapter through the international networking and professional community such as the IAAO, aims to expand the body of knowledge of best practice through standards and guidance in implementing property rating and valuations. Research and Surveys
The Chapter coordinates and collaborates on areas of research interest on municipal property valuations and rating. The Chapter offers guidance to students and learners to support and feed into the industry and valuer profession.
The IAAO encourages and fully supports partnerships and collaboration with stakeholders who share the same vision for the benefit and growth of the municipal valuation and rating functions. Currently, the IAAO-SAAF Chapter has initiated engagements and partnerships with the KZN Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and the South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession to share knowledge and facilitate growth in professional development in municipal property rating and valuations. To invite individuals interested in participating in a managed professional exchange program between identified counterparts locally and/or internationally.
